Wolf Pack Wednesday: Spirituality and Social Justice (Fall 2023)

Subject line: Where Spirituality Meets Social Justice

Date: September 13, 2023

Loyola Student Ministry Programs are here to help you find what centers you, feeds your soul, and fuels your passion. Spirituality can come to us in many different forms—from a reflective moment in nature to weekly worship services. Here are some ways to deepen your spirituality at Loyola.

Worship in Your Own Way

Our Interfaith Ministries support students of diverse faith backgrounds, and our Interfaith Prayer Room located in the lower level of the Danna Student Center provides a meditative place to pray throughout the day.

Catholic Masses and other devotions are celebrated weekly and streamed live on YouTube. Visit our website to also learn more about involvement opportunities with Mass.

Sacramental Preparation enables the Loyola community to prepare for or receive the Sacraments of the Church and for all to enrich their individual faith lives, incorporating our Jesuit values and Ignatian Spirituality.

Our Prayer Resources offer virtual and off-campus opportunities to deepen your spirituality, find a house of worship, or connect to the Jesuit community.

Visit our This Week in Ministry page for a full listing of the current events and programs available each week!

Talk with a Resident Minister

Resident Ministers and Jesuits-in-Residence are available for spiritual conversation and pastoral counseling by appointment. You can also meet and chat with them at their weekly "Sweet-n-Greets" in Biever, Buddig, and Francis Family Halls. Learn more about spiritual companioning and counseling available to all students at Loyola.

Connect to Your Faith Community

At Loyola, we welcome students from all faith backgrounds! If you would like to connect with a community of students who share your faith, please fill out this form. You will be contacted by the leader of the faith community of your choosing (choose however many communities you want). Thank you for offering the gift of your religious affiliation to the Loyola community! Please reach out to Associate Director of Ministry Ken Weber at kweber@gitc21.net with any questions about getting connected spiritually.

Take a Retreat

Here at Loyola, we offer several retreat opportunities to help students explore their spirituality, build community, and reflect on who they are and who they want to be. If you missed the deadline for the First Year Retreat, we encourage you to check out the Awakening Retreat coming up in the spring!

Make a Difference

There are many ways to make a difference, both within and outside the Loyola community. One way to do so is by joining the Loyola University Community Action Program (LUCAP), which is a social justice and service-oriented organization that is completely led by students. LUCAP students get involved through service projects in areas such as rebuilding, hunger and homelessness, tutoring and mentoring, and environmentalism. Along with service, students also learn about social justice issues and advocate as a community. Explore LUCAP on HowlConnect to see current projects and email lucap@gitc21.net to get involved.

Stay Nourished

Food insecurity among college students is a national social justice issue on college campuses that has become even more pronounced as a result of the pandemic. As a Jesuit institution Iggy’s Cupboard focuses on caring for the whole person by providing students access to non-perishable food, frozen and refrigerated food, hygiene items, school supplies, and other essential items needed to be healthy and productive. Access to the cupboard is available by walking in during hours of operation and donations are accepted in the Cupboard, the Student Life and Ministry suite, or in marked bins located around campus.

Find More Resources

Each year, Student Life and Ministry publishes a New Student Resource Guide packed with information to help you get settled at Loyola. You’ll find location and contact info for offices and departments on campus, instructions for using technology at Loyola, and a rundown of essential info for academics, student life, and safety on campus.
